I get the distinct impression from talking to my friends that this New Year is being met with much apprehension. And given the economic situation, the many wars being fought and continuing environmental issues I would have to say rightly so. However, many of us are choosing to stay hopeful that the change we all so wanted will bring about just what we hoped. It was the mystic Rumi that said the "Moonlight floods the whole sky from horizon to horizon; How much of it can fill your room depends on its windows." This new year let our windows be clear and clean and huge.
In his now infamous writings Rumi also wrote of the Three Pearls. In this story Adam was gifted from the Divine with three pearls, Reason, Faith and Humility. He had to choose which of these pearls he mostly desired. He choose Reason, that is when the pearls of Faith and Humility then said to him "We cannot exist without of our holy friend, Reason." So Faith and Humility was also granted to him. As children of Adam we have also been granted these pearls. In this New Year, let us use the all. Let our power of Reason help us to put in perspective all that we see and hear in the media. Use this power to make the best decisions for 2009. Have Faith in our heart that these decisions are made knowing that each and every step we take is a necessary one that leads to the making of YOU. And most importantly have Humility on our face, understand that Everything that we possess, truly belongs to this life, and to have it, is a blessing from the Divine.
